Resumen
At the beginning of 1821 the city of Lima was surrounded by the army, troops, guerrillas and montoneras of the patriotic side, faithful to José de San Martín. The objective was to cut off the food supply that came from the mountains, seeking to exhaust the viceroy's forces and force him to leave the city. His plan was successful, as the royalists moved towards Cuzco. This allowed the entry of San Martín to the capital in July 1821, proclaiming independence on the 28th of the same month. However, the cost of the siege was high, as hunger, cold and disease reduced the troops on both sides and seriously affected the health of the city's inhabitants. Based on the above, this research analyzes the state and treatment of health and disease during the Peruvian war of independence (1821-1826), both from the State and from the various actors of the time.
